A dull month…

Option Trades

There wasn’t too much going on in August. I only closed out a handful of trades for a bit of an overall loss for the month (thank you CLF). Two trades set me back a little this month. The first was a misstep on a covered call on GRPN. I accidentally put in the Good Till Canceled (GTC) order for $.10 instead of $.01…a little frustrating. Note to self…check all numbers before hitting “Send” on the order!

The other problem trade was an Iron Condor on CLF. I set it up a little lopsided to the call side with the “wings” there two strikes wide vice the one strike wide puts. Of course, as my history with CLF would have it the stock decided to make a run up and test my calls. And like a coward I ran for the hills when what I should’ve done was stand my ground. I was completely comfortable with the total risk in the trade, so the problem here was I let my emotions get to me a bit. I would’ve thought I was beyond this problem at this point in trading, but it goes to show it can still creep back in to haunt you. Oh well, such is trading!

Dividend Income

Dividends were boring this month, which is what they should be! JNK was the only one to pay out as it’s a monthly payer compared to the others. Not much to say here except to just keep holding on and trucking along with my dividends.

Lending Club Income

Lending Club continues to show promise and a continued increase in interest payments. Another loan was paid back in full so I have about $200 I need to deploy to start receiving more interest payments. I dug through the loans recently, but didn’t see anything fitting my risk profile so I didn’t put in any money. It’s been a few weeks though, so I’m sure there’s some new opportunities in there I can take advantage of.

That’s it for this report. If you haven’t taken a look at the intro to my 180 Your Trading series, pop over to this article and give it a quick read. The series is focused on how to put your trading log data to work for you to improve your trading. I’d love to hear from y’all, so drop me an email at nakedoptiontrader@gmail.com, leave a comment on the site or catch me on Twitter @optionstudent.

Until next month!

Happy Trading,

Patrick
